Yes. I did it. I finally read the first Hunger Games book, in exactly one day. I had an 8 am flight from Pittsburgh to Memphis to Nashville, so around 6:30 or so after making my way through security in Pittsburgh, I wandered into one of the airport bookstores. About 20 hours later, I’d finished reading it. Actually, I don’t think what I did was “read” that book, it was something more akin to ravenously devouring it, only stopping occasionally to eat, drink, and pee.

I've never actually reblogged something before, but I enjoyed this post so I'm giving it a shot. Definitely echos my thoughts and obsession with the Hunger Games. Also, I am now claiming Effie Trinket for my next Halloween costume.

Sunday Salad

The majority of our friends, and even our families, treat Sunday dinner as one of the bigger meals of the week. It makes sense really. You’re home all day which leaves plenty of time to prep and cook and even clean. It’s the last day of the weekend, and possibly the last relaxed meal you’ll have for five more days- you’ll want to savor it and treat it special.

But for us, Sunday is usually a day of detoxing. We likely partied all weekend, not paying any care to what food we ate and overdoing the beer. So Sundays, after we do the grocery shopping, we like to make something easy, simple, and when able, healthy.

Nick’s parents brought us some nice wooden salad bowls back from a vacation, so I used them for the first time tonight and made a tasty salad with whatever leftovers we had or would have from the weeks recipes. I love salads like this- you just throw on whatever you have and it ends up being delicious. Rice bowls for me are much the same way.

Tossed mixed spring greens with some raw red onion and feta, and added some sauteed mushrooms and chicken on top. A little oil and vingar for some dressing and we were good to go. After the weekend we had, helping Nick celebrate his Press Association award, it was a much needed light meal.

new bowls! pretty, yes?

not so hungry hunger games

Have I mentioned my deep obsession with the Hunger Games?

I’ve read the book series twice now and am literally counting down the days when I can see the movie. Nick is a fan as well and we’re planning to have some friends of ours over for dinner before heading out to see the movie next Friday. But of course I can’t serve just anything.

We will be enjoying:

Fresh bread spread with goat cheese and basil leaves
Dandelion salad (ok, probably can’t find dandelions, so just salad)
Lamb Stew with dried plums
and
“Nightlock” berries and cream (blackberries) for dessert

I’m so excited! Still thinking I need another appetizer, though. What foods would you serve at your hunger games themed dinner/party? I think I’ll also pick up some white roses so we have an eerie President Snow themed centerpiece. I’ll definitely post some pictures and recipes after!

Welcome

The other week I wrote a quick post for our work blog and I thought I’d link to it from here. It’s got an amusing video with it that describes the importance of nurturing your early followers- a nice segue for me to welcome the new traffic from Offbeat Bride! Hope you’ll stick around.

Lazy

I’ve been a bad blogger, and an even worse crafter.

It’s been at least a few months since I’ve made much of anything. I think it’s partially because I am anticipating a good bit of DIY for the upcoming wedding and I’m doing my best not to get burnt out early. Mostly it’s because I’ve been lazy.

I’ve got to get inspired again and get my hands moving before I start to lose my mind or sink permanently into the sofa.

Lately the most inspiring things I’ve seen are some new (to me) graphic design blogs and wedding blogs. So while I can’t provide a tutorial of any kind of my own today, I can at least get you set up with some links of what I’ve been starring at in my pajamas for several days (ok fine, weeks) and direct you to someone who doesn’t suck at updating their blog.

Emmaline Bride  Pretty sure everyone on the internet knew about about this blog before me, but I’ve recently become obsessed. Beautiful weddings, tutorials and giveaways. It’s pretty awesome.

Graphics Fairy Free printables like every other day. I’ve been pinning all of them.

puglypixel All kinds of photoshop tutorials that are super detailed and easy to follow. I’ve already used some of their tips at work, and will definitely be using more.

That’s it for now. I’ll try harder next time.
